IDP Watch

For those of you stuck in a rut and relying solely on my analysis leading up to draft night - you know who you are - let me remind you that your problems are further complicated when it comes to selecting which IDPs to keep. Confused? Let me explain...

1. Do you have quality free agent pick-ups from 2009 on the defensive side of the ball?

The answer is yes. Everyone does. You know why? Because there are 90-100 starting LBs in the NFL and each puts up gaudy stats periodically so we grab them off the wire.

2. Do you buy and sell IDPs throughout the season looking to play the match-ups?

Everyone but PE does. That's a fact. But why...

Here's the reason -

IDP points are critical to winning and losing. A stud backer can throw 20+ on the board on the FPT. Or how about a DL getting to the QB...can you say sack, forced fumble, tackle, and recovery all in the same play? Jared Allen can. Hell, even Juice's boy Woodsen got in on the action with picks, pass deflections, and TDs all in one nice package let alone tackles. But here's the thing - if you don't get one of these guys you're throwing money into DNice's pot and driving yourself crazy trying to guess right. Sound familiar?

So what does this mean? How does this pertain to me and my roster? Unless you're rolling Patrick Willis, DJ Williams, and Charles Woodsen out of the gate, you better think long and hard about who you need and when you gotta get him. Here's a hint...4th round. And looking at the rosters leading up to next Friday night, we're all debating which of our FA from 2009 afford us the ability to wait a round or two before diving into the IDP pool. From my vantage point, nobody can afford it. And if you think I'm blowing smoke - just recognize that I'm essentially starting the picks for the fourth round so consider this another piece of my insightful advice. There's a reason Juice rolls up the points every season...and why he has back-to-back picks in the round!
